Glamorgan Federation Walk Rhossili Bay

Our Walkie Talkie group decided to support the Glamorgan Federation by taking pat in their Rhossili walk rather than plan a separate one.  Five of us arrived at the National Trust car park in lovely October susnhine, where we had a beautiful view of Worns Head.  It was good to meet members from other WI's  and before long we were climbing up a moderately steep and muddy path on to Rhossili Down.  The views of the bay were glorious as we walked amongst the sheep and ponies, stopping at the Trig point  and disused radar station.

We then descended to Hillend Campsite for a well deserved picnic lunch.  Feeling refreshed we then headed on to the long stretch of sand, which took us back to Rhosilli. The crashing waves and call of the sea tempted the hardier in for a paddle and even yoga poses. The shipwreck of The Helvetia was also very interesting. A climb up a path and steps brought us back to our cars.  Described as a strenuous 5 miles, but very enjoyable!

Wenvoe Walk 1st August 2024

"A short walk please", was the request for my first time as a Walkie Talkie Leader. A good job too, as day 5 of the heatwave! The 5.7km circular walk started just outside Wenvoe, and we soon reached the heart of the village via it's residential streets. Perfect timing as we arrived at St Mary's ancient church at exactly the same time as it's Treasurer. He delighted in unlocking the church for us, and giving us a guided tour full of history including that of the Jenner family of Wenvoe Castle, a Dan Brown type coded mystery on the floor before the altar, and the story behind a fish carved upon a deceased cherry tree outside the church.
We then headed up and out of Wenvoe via woodland, and across paths and fields, until we reached the hamlet of St Lythan. Here we found a shaded spot in the porch of St Bleiddian. We sat, cooled down and rehydrated. The return route took us along country lanes and paths. We saw an unusual flock of sheep in a field, aptly named Badger Face Welsh Mountain Sheep. A second much woolier flock startled us in the woods, we guessed they had escaped their field in search of shade. A magnificent oak (or was it 2 now conjoined trees?), a visit to The Elizabethan Orchard, and the Spitfire Mural at Burdon's Hill were all points of interest as we returned to our starting point. Walk completed, we headed for lunch in The Orange Tree Cafe in Pugh's Garden Village.

Walkie Talkie Walk- 30th January, 2024

Our first walk of the New Year took place on 30th January and we were blessed with cloudy but dry weather. The walk was an easy one of around 4.5 miles along the Ogmore Estuary and headland with beautiful sea views and as the tide was out we were able to walk the beach on the outward trek and return on the headland where we stopped for tea/coffee and cake at the Welsh Coffee Company café. 11 ladies walked and an enjoyable time was had by all.
