Highlight Park WI  October 2019  report

The end of September and it was a trip to The Autumn Show at the Three Showgrounds at Malvern. The backdrop to this wonderful show are the famous hills of Malvern which towered over us. Sometimes with heavy showers and gusty winds the ladies enjoyed wandering around displays of giant vegetables, immaculate produce and of course the flowers.  There were stalls of every kind and the talent of the Cotswold Craftsmen were to be admired.  They were quite amazing.  Carol Kirkwood, the  BBC Weather girl gave an interesting talk about ‘The Weather’ and invited guests on stage and to ask questions.

Copthorne for anniversary lunch.

On Oct 1st.  we celebrated our 30th Anniversary with a lunch which was arranged for about 60 of us at the Copthorne Hotel in Cardiff.  Complete with balloons, celebration cake and brooches made especially for us by our members of the craft club, we sat down to a delicious three course meal waited on by several waiters.  Barbara gave us a run down of the history of the branch and many memories were evoked by them.

Visit to The Royal Mint at Llantrisant.
A very blustery day with heavy showers didn’t deter our group from our planned trip to The Royal Mint in Llantrisant.  We were shown around by a very intelligent lady who had been guiding tours there since the exhibition opened.  With miles of history and story boards we came out full of knowledge about the whole history and development of the Royal Mint which originally was in Mint Street in London but now the whole industry is in Llantrisant.  Some of us struck our own die of 50pence pieces and some exchanged 10 pence pieces for special edition ones with the letters of the alphabet on them.  After lunch we went to the shopping centre nearby to enjoy a bit of spending and avoiding the rain.

Our social afternoon on October 15th  was another game of Hoy Bingo with Jeannette which was enjoyable as usual.

On November 5th   at 2pm start we have a guest speaker Carole who will give us the latest news from India from the Pooncholai Trust.

Coming up in November is a visit to the  Margam Orangery for craft stalls etc.

Another meeting in November will be on 19th November in the Hall at 2 pm.

23rd November will be our trip to Ludlow for the Christmas Fayre.

We meet at The Highlight Park Community Hall  and every Thursday we have craft afternoon at 2 pm till 4 pm.
